Friday "Wrap Up"

This week we celebrated Dr. Seuss Week with a bunch of activities throughout the week.  We had a Dr. Seuss photo booth set up in the library for kids, teachers and classes to take pictures when they were here for checkout.

We also had a "Dress like a Dr. Seuss Character" day.  It always amazes me at how creative some parents are because I do not have that talent.  I just love seeing how the kids come to school.  

One of our dress up days was "Twin Day".  I love that the teachers even get involved in this one.  

We also had a "Dr. Seuss Read Around the School". Teachers picked Dr. Seuss books to read and the student traveled to 3 different books with their reading buddies.  This is a clip from our PE and Science teachers really getting into the spirit of I Wish That I Had Duck Feet.

Friday "Wrap Up"

This week we had two opportunities connect with authors via google hangout.  First with Kate Messner (read about that here) and then with Kelly Bennett, author of the Read for the Record book, Not Norman.

I also 

- had makerspace for 3rd grade

- 4 Second Grade Nonfiction Neighborhood lessons

- 6 First Grade Hallo-wiener lessons 

- 5 Kinder Storytimes with Halloween books

- met with my director about our library transformation

And my nails this week are Dem Bones and Glowing Ghouls

Friday "Wrap Up"

Besides the very fun Kate diCamillo webinar we participated in yesterday, here are the other things that happened in the library.

-  3 Second Grade finding books in the everybody section lessons

-  2 1st grade Pebble Go/Popplet lesson about Objects in the Sky

-  5 kinder storytimes Not a Box

-  4 days of 4th grade makerspace

-  newspaper club

Friday "Wrap Up"

On Monday I started my makerspace.  You can read about that here .

I am really pleased with how it went this week.  It was fascinating to see the kids thought processes as they tried to build.  I pleasantly surprised to see that each day, girl teams were the ones that were able to make the tallest tower out of pipe cleaners.

And my nails... GLOW IN THE DARK!! How cool is that.  At our Jamberry Summit last weekend, they announced the glow in the dark wraps and gave us each a sheet.  I couldn't wait to get home and try them.  On that same day, my Tru Shine Gel Kit came so of course I had to try that to. So here is my Glowing Ghouls Wraps with a Black Cherry Gel accent nail (don't judge the painting of the nail, just look at the pretty color and smooth, shiny finish ;)) 

And here are my wraps at night.  They totally freaked me out the first night I had them on because I forgot about them.  I turned off my bedside light and went to scratch my nose and almost had a heart attack.

Friday "Wrap" Up

This is a short week for schools here in San Antonio due to our Fiesta celebration.  We are off today for the huge Battle of Flowers Parade downtown.  Besides giving STAAR for 3 days - blech!  We actually did get some poetry stations done with 4th grade for our upcoming visit from Poetry Alive.  I also moderated a twitter chat for my district librarians about things they brought back from TLA. And I participated in our district chat about education where each question (and some answers) were introduced with memes.  You can read about that chat on @Terrieichholz blog post .

My wraps this week are in honor of Fiesta time in San Antonio.... Lotus , the June Hostess Exclusive and Skinny Pink (I am not usually a "pink girl", but after having it on last week I LOVE it!

I have nothing to do with the first grade Fiesta parade that goes on at our school, but I just love how the whole school dresses up and lines the hallways.

And the floats that the 1st graders make are AMAZING!!  Check these out (sorry some are blurry, they were moving fast).

Friday "Wrap Up"

Hellllooo Spring Break!!

This week we celebrated Dr. Seuss week.  We had a Dress Up day representing a book each day of the week.  My kinder teachers went all out for this.  Love them.

In addition to this, I also had my first experience skyping with another class for World Read Aloud Day.  Read about that here.  I had more skypes planned, but icy weather prevented it.  

We also finished Kinder research finally!  

4 First grade classes read There's a Wocket in My Pocket and used PicCollage to each make a page for a class book.  We loooked around the library for places that these little creatures might hide and made a list on the white board.  The students had to make a nonsense rhyming word to name their creature.  Take a picture and presto, they were the nonsense creature in the library. 

2 Second grade classes had note-taking lessons.

Funny Friday: Like Student Like Teacher

Every librarian has probably gotten the questions, "Where are the 'good books'?" or "Do you have any 'good book'?" from their students.

But last night on Facebook, one of my TEACHERS posted "anyone have a good book to lend? I need something to read while my kids read each night!"  

My comment..."Ummmm, we have a whole library full of 'good books'!"

Now I know where the kids get it from ;)

Funny for Friday

This week in my kinder journal, we were doing the letter "Z". I read them he book "Zoozical" by Judy Sierra. Then in their journals on the Z page, they were supposed to tell me what their favorite song was.  We had a lot of ABCs, Wheels on the Bus and Calendar Songs, but one little girl wrote "Lt it go". I asked her what her favorite song was and she said, "You know" and then began singing "Let it Go! Let It Go!" while throwing out her chest and spreading her arms wide. I really wish I had a video of it! Obviously she has seen the movie more than once since she had the moves down to a "t". So funny.
